EDUCATION JOURNEY

Education has always been a priority for me and I consider myself to be a lifelong learner.  Initially, following graduation in 1995 I completed many clinical courses in general and specialized physiotherapy practice.  Additionally, I completed clinical preceptor courses and mentored one to two students each year and enjoyed teaching and learning from students from physiotherapy schools across the country and overseas. Other training opportunities completed include training in Lean principles as well as Prosci change management.

I am currently enrolled in a Learning Leaders Program in our health care organization and am excited to participate in a Leads 360 evaluation and work with colleagues across our health authority.  I have also stepped out of my "comfort zone" and submitted an abstract to a national leadership conference.  In June, 2018, a colleague of mine from Nunatsiavut Government, Health and Social Development (Labrador) and I will present at the National Health Leadership Conference in St. John's, NL.  This is an exciting opportunity for us to present our journey and resources to improve cancer care for Aboriginal groups in NL.

NEW EDUCATION FOCUS

My education focus has expanded to consider the education of patients, families, the general public and health care professionals.  I am currently a member of the Provincial Cancer Care Program’s website improvement team.  The goal of this initiative is to provide up to date and evidence based information to patients and families as well as health care professionals across all Regional Health Authorities.  Additionally, I work with rural physicians to standardize oncology practices and organize educational opportunities.  I recently assisted in organizing continuing medical education (breast health) targeted at family physicians and health care professionals throughout the province of NL.
